Problem

Each year 8 million, yes that's 8 million, tonnes of plastic enters the oceans. However, you don't need statistics to see that plastic pollution is choking the oceans - just take a look in the surf at your local beach.

Lots of stakeholders (including business, government, individuals, and charities) have a role to play in freeing our world from plastic pollution but it is hard to make a massive impact when everyone's efforts are isolated.

Ocean Recovery Alliance is committed to tackling the issue of plastic pollution through collaborative efforts.

Our Mission

Our vision is to bring about large scale changes in the reduction of plastic pollution. However we don't do beach cleanups. We do most of our work on land by educating business, governments, charities and individuals to bring about awareness and solutions.

Our journey so far

When we started, we were one of the first Asian NGOs to be working on plastic pollution at a global level. We were launched in 2010 at the Clinton Global Initiative. We are still one of the few NGOs to have worked with both UNEP and the World Bank on plastic pollution issues. In 2017 CEO Magazine's Tech for Change feature named our Global Alert App as 1 of 8 initiatives changing the world.

Our biggest achievement

In 2018 our Founder, Doug Woodring, was the recipient of the Prince's Prize for Innovative Philanthropy from Prince Albert of Monaco.

Why you should donate your skills to us

We are highly responsive as we don't like to waste time or delay when there is so much to do.

Basically we engage in cool environmental entrepreneurialism. We get involved with so many things including education, art, technology, recycling programmes, river cleanups and festivals.

If you like contributing to creative, high impact global work that is always moving - you might be a good fit for us.
